Writing Consultant Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned A in WRTG 107, INT 117, or PHIL 217J*
- A current GPA of 3.5
- A working knowledge of the writing process
- Familiarity in locating and documenting reliable and credible sources
- The recommendation of two faculty members
- Possession of excellent writing, listening, and speaking skills
- Dedication to the Jesuit principle of "men and women for others"
Job Responsibilities
- Work with student writers during any step of the writing process: invention, draft, revise, edit, publish
- Work with student writers from a variety of colleges and subjects
- Work with student writers to ensure alignment with and adherence to the paper's prompt or assignment
- Guide student writers through sentence-level grammatical revisions as well as larger, global revisions
- Guide student writers through necessary citation methods
- Maintain a familiarity with several citation methods including APA, MLA, and AMA
- Keep accurate records through WCOnline
- Assist students in scheduling appointments as needed
- Assist in training new consultants
- Attend regular meetings and training sessions as scheduled
- Meet with the Writing Center Coordinator once per semester
