The Curriculum
Our program is a 60 credit hour, master of science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. It is oriented to allow graduates to apply for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or similarly named license in another state. The program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and has 4 areas of study:
- 27 credits of Foundations of Professional Counseling
- 15 credits of Clinical Mental Health Counseling Courses
- 9 credits of Clinical Experience (including a 3 credit hour practicum and 6 credit hour internship)
- 9 credits of Electives for Specialization
Each student will meet with department faculty to develop a unique course schedule that fits their needs.

Clinical Experience
COUN 590 Practicum: Clinical Mental Health Counseling (3 credit hours)
COUN 595 Internship: Clinical Mental Health Counseling (6 credit hours)*
*Note: Students are required to take 6 credits of internship. These credits can be taken over one or two semesters to complete internship requirements. If taking internship over two semesters (recommended), then students will register for internship twice for 3 credits each time. If taking internship over one semester, then students will register for internship once for 6 credits.
