Peer Health Education
The Peer Health Education Team
Who we are: CHEW's team of Peer Health Educators are role models, educators, advocates, teammates and friends. CHEW's nationally certified Peer Health Educators (PHE's) are trained leaders and agents of change, working to promote individual well-being and a healthy campus community!
Team members design and implement campus-wide health promotion campaigns and programs on alcohol and other drugs, stress management, self-care, mindfulness, sleep, nutrition and other relevant health & wellness topics. Classroom presentations, outdoor events, and "pop-up" giveaway promotions, including our famous Wellness Wagon, are just a few ways our team promotes health in mind, body and spirit.
Join us at our annual team events including: Resilient Royals, Glow & Flow Late Night Yoga, The Fitness Challenge, Mental Health Screenings, Alcohol Awareness Week, Study Smoothly Smoothie Giveaway, and Stress Less Week(s) before Finals!
Apply to be a Peer Health Educator
Peer Health Educator recruitment takes place annually during the spring semester for the following year. We seek students who are looking for a hands-on leadership experience and are passionate about health and wellness. All majors are encouraged to apply!
Application Process (subject to change)
- Complete an online application, which includes essay questions. Please take the time to comprehensively answer each question.
- A limited number of applicants will be selected to receive an individual interview with the Assistant Director of CHEW and a Peer Health Educator Leader after online applications are reviewed. Unfortunately because of the large volume of applicants each year, we are not able to offer in-person interviews to every applicant.
- Complete an in-person interview.

Here's what current PHEs have to say:
“My favorite thing about being a part of CHEW is having the opportunity to share my passion for health and well being to other students on campus. Knowing the work you are putting into creating a healthier campus is such an amazing thing to see! Not only is CHEW a place for research and the spread of health and wellness knowledge, but it is also the spot to build meaningful friendships.” - Ava ‘25
“Being a part of CHEW is an amazing opportunity because it is such a great program to be able to develop leadership skills while also advocating for a healthy environment on campus here at Scranton. Being able to work with other peers who share a passion for spreading the ideology of a healthy campus has been a shining part of my time here at Scranton. " - Vito '26
